How much does an axolotl cost in Australia?

Our animals run from $70 AUD to $190 AUD depending on morph, size and how well grown they are. Wild types are the most affordable, leucistics and coppers sit in the middle, GFP animals carry a premium and genuine mosaics run several hundred dollars higher. Live express freight is quoted before dispatch. Full breakdown on the axolotl price Australia page.

Which states can you ship to?

Axolotl keeping is regulated by each state and territory rather than nationally, and the position is not the same everywhere. Some states restrict or prohibit keeping them and some require a licence. Check with your own state or territory wildlife authority before ordering. We will not send an animal into a state where it cannot legally be kept, and we refund in full rather than take that risk.

Do I need a chiller?

It depends where you live. In Brisbane and Perth a chiller is close to essential. In Melbourne and Adelaide most keepers manage with a cool interior room, a fan across the water surface and frozen bottles on the worst days. Sydney depends more on your house than on the city.

What tank size do I need for one axolotl?

60 litres is the practical minimum for one adult and 90 litres for two. Floor space matters far more than height, because axolotls live on the bottom. A long shallow tank beats a tall one of the same volume. See the tank setup guide.

Can two axolotls live together?

Yes, once both are over 12 cm and a similar size, with enough floor space and two hides. Below that they will nip each other's gills and limbs. They regenerate, but it is stressful and entirely avoidable. Never keep them with fish.

What do you feed them?

Chopped earthworm is the staple and soft sinking pellets are the practical everyday food. Juveniles eat daily, adults every two or three days. Avoid feeder fish, which are the most common way a parasite enters a tank. Full guide in what do axolotls eat.

What happens if my axolotl arrives unwell?

Photograph it in the unopened bag and email us within 24 hours of delivery. We replace the animal or refund you in full, and nothing needs to be returned. Full terms on the shipping and delivery page.
