Ask a question about Bruce before you buy. We answer within a business day.

Wild type axolotls are the hardiest of the morphs and tolerate small water parameter swings better than the pale morphs, which makes them forgiving for a first animal.

Bruce is a wild type axolotl and, at 11.5 cm, the largest of the wild types available. Strong natural colouring with heavy gold flecking across the back and well defined darker mottling along the flanks. The extra growth has brought out the pattern more than in the smaller animals, and the gill stalks are long and full.

Well grown, hardy and eating anything put in front of him. An easy animal to keep. Takes pellets straight off the sand and chopped worm from tongs. No coaxing needed, which is what we look for before listing.

What you see is what ships. We do not substitute a similar animal if this one goes. Express courier to Perth, early in the week only, so nothing sits in a depot over a weekend. The price guide covers what each morph costs and what the tank adds on top.

Questions about Bruce

Is Bruce a good first axolotl?

Yes, and you are making it easier on yourself by choosing this morph. A wild type will find its own food without tongs, which removes the single thing new keepers most often get wrong.

How big will Bruce get?

Bruce is 11.5 cm now and should finish between 18 and 25 cm. A larger animal has reserves. It can miss a feed or ride out a small water swing without it mattering.

Can Bruce live with another axolotl?

At 11.5 cm Bruce is close to the 12 cm mark where cohabiting becomes reasonable, with an animal of matching size and 90 litres between them.
